Trereife Sycamore no 8 bowl

Formed from Cornish 'spalted' sycamore, hand turned large fruit or salad bowl. This unique piece is bespoke and certainly one of a kind! The wood itself has been reclaimed from the woodland floor of Trereife House, Newlyn and through the turning and drying process the wood has taken on a form all of it's own and created a wonderful, natural shape which compliments the grain and finish superbly. You can feel the grain in the wood while it still has a silky smooth finish.

I source most of my materials from fallen trees, donations from friends, or suitable drift wood.

Often the wood is turned, milled and prepared 'green'. Green wood still contains a good deal of moisture, once a project is completed a slow, natural drying process can lead to changes in shape, these changes add extra characteristics to many pieces and make them truly unique.

As we take so much care and pride in our work, we aim to work with as many natural products as we can, in order to finish and add longevity and performance to each item. This item has been finished with pure Tung oil.

This particular piece revealed some very challenging textures in the wood that made for a careful turning and finishing process to achieve the silky smooth sheen and mesmerising colours that this truly spectacular piece of wood has allowed!

Laser engraved on base with the series name and number of the bowl.

Please note that these bowls have been turned green and due to varying climatic conditions when you receive them you may find they warp or change shape very slightly over the first few weeks as they stabilise.

While they have been finished with pure tung oil and a coat of wax polish prior to shipping, being a naturally finished natural material as with all wooden furniture it would benefit from a polish from time to time. We recommend Tung oil which is available from many online retailers, please contact me for any advice.
